Acupuncture

I offer both 5 element style and Traditional Chinese Medicine: two of the most established styles of Acupuncture in this country.

“Acupuncture is a natural way to restore Body and Mind back to health.”

Acupuncture is a system of healing relatively new to the western world, but it has been practised In the East and China for thousands of years. It is often seen as a treatment for pain however it can be used to treat a wide range of conditions.

Most prescription drugs have side effects. Acupuncture, as a natural therapy, has no side effects.

“In many years of practice, I have successfully treated people with a wide range of symptoms – mild to severe, chronic to acute.”

MRI scans show acupuncture points triggering the body’s natural healing process by calming the central nervous system, releasing hormones, and regulating endorphins. Scientific research supports what many people have experienced for years – acupuncture works.

How does acupuncture work?

All kinds of stress, overwork, lifestyle patterns and injury can upset our natural balance. When we are out of balance, we have physical and emotional symptoms.

Acupuncture focuses on the health of the whole person to treat specific symptoms more effectively. Our health is dependent on the body’s motivating energy, known as Chi, moving in a smooth, balanced way through channels within the body. When our Chi becomes unbalanced or disrupted, illness results. Inserting fine needles at key points helps to unblock the flow of energy and restore normal balance, thereby stimulating the body’s own healing response.

I take time to understand the root cause of your symptoms. Having established the relevant patterns of disharmony, very fine needles are used to activate specific energy points on the body to help bring body and mind back to health.

What does acupuncture treat?

NICE (National Institute for Health & Care Excellence) recommends acupuncture for back pain and headaches.

Many thousands of clinical trials have verified the effectiveness of acupuncture. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the UK’s Department of Health recognise its value. As well as successfully treating painful conditions such as migraines and back pain, acupuncture can help many other ailments. The WHO (2002) lists conditions for which acupuncture has been proved through controlled trials to be an effective treatment.

The WHO lists a further 72 conditions for which the therapeutic effect of acupuncture has been shown through clinical trials but for which further research would be helpful.

If you have a particular condition or symptoms you would like to discuss whether acupuncture could help, please ring me.

What does it feel like?

I use carefully placed very fine needles which are much finer than those used for injections. Any initial sensation or discomfort is so slight that even children can cope with it. A pricking sensation may be followed by an achy numb feeling. Needles may be left in for 20 minutes; usually you will feel little or nothing while you wait.  The common effect of treatment is that the person being treated becomes more relaxed.

Kindness is the key, and you remain in control.

Clothing

Only the area of the body to be worked on is uncovered and I leave the room while the client changes and gets on or off the couch.

I really was not sure what to expect from acupuncture, but I went because I had painful knees, right hand, and right foot. After only a few sessions most of the pain and discomfort has gone and I have much more mobility. However, this has not been the only effect and I can’t believe the difference in my energy levels. Before I would tire easily but now, I have enough energy to get through the …

I had a bad back for 2 years and repeated visits to doctors did nothing. After an x-ray showed deterioration in my spine I went to Peter after recommendation from a friend. And it worked: after a few sessions with a combination of acupuncture / massage / zero balancing. Peter has loads of experience and is very easy to talk to and I felt supported to make the right choices and nearly a year later …
